Parent Orientation

Dear Parents,
I hope this was a wonderful school year for you and your child. As we begin our summer vacation many families will continue their rebuilding efforts and the King family sincerely hope that your efforts are going smoothly. Always remember, that if you ever need someone to talk to, our school social worker, parent liaison and others are willing to listen and offer resources. Also, remember that you are not by yourself. We are all in the rebuilding process and need to lean on one another.

Some exciting activities happened throughout our school year and our students have gained so much more for participating in all the exciting activities.
During the first part of the school year, Tom Joyner hosted his exciting radio broadcast from our school. As a result of his publicity, our school received many donations.

Next, President Bush and Mrs. Bush came to visit or school. They visited Mrs. Ford's second grade class, Mr. Johnson's seventh grade class and Mrs. Stallworth's eight grade class. He greeted thrid, fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh grade students in the cafeteria. Also, Govenor Blanco accompanied the President. They thoroughly enjoyed their visit.

Another exciting activity we  implemented was the "Second Cup" activity.  This activity was a time for parents to come and enjoy a second cup of coffee and pastries and meet with the principal informally. I applaude the many parents who participated !

This school year was truly special because we returned to our original location, here in the Lower Ninth Ward.

Have a safe and wonderful summer!

Sincerely,

Doris R. Hicks, Principal
